Manchester United 2-4 Everton (penalties)

Penalties

Highlights

Having won the League Cup, Charity Shield and World Club Champions, and with the Premier League title in sight and the Semi-final of the Champions League coming up, Alex Ferguson is in a generous mood to present his old friend Moyes with a FA Cup Final to cherish and perhaps, even win it. Alex promptly fielded a team of second stringers to face a full strength Everton team. And as expected, they failed to break down the tough Everton defence. Fortunately for the United defence, Rio Ferdinand is back, and Gary Neville is not in the team to blunder in goals for Everton, as he did against Liverpool and Porto.

The match ended goalless. I suspect Berbatov and United captain Rio must have gotten the lead from Ferguson to gift Moyes the FA Cup final so United can concentrate on the Premiership and the Champions League. They duly obliged by gleefully sending their penalties into the arms of ex-United goalkeeper Tim Howard.

None of the United players who missed the penalties were too upset about their misses. And don't you dare expect Sir Alex to say that he is glad to have lost a semi-final match in the post-match press interview.
